Satnam dear Kundalini Lounge community
On 26 October this year, the official birthday of Guru Ram Das in the Sikh calendar will be celebrated globally, although many in the Kundalini Yoga community are also celebrating it this week with music and meditation events. So we could say the month of October is a month to get closer to Guru Ram Das 🙂
As we know, when we tune in at the start of a Kundalini Yoga class with the Adi Mantra – Ong Namo Guru Dev Namo – we tune into the energy and vibration of Guru Ram Das who was the Spiritual Teacher of Yogi Bhajan, Master of Kundalini Yoga, who brought this ancient practice to the West in 1969. Through Guru Ram Das and Yogi Bhajan, then to us as teachers and students, we tune into the Golden Chain and bring light and elevation through this vibration across the planet.
Yogi Bhajan refers to Guru Ram Das as the Guardian of the Aquarian Age and the Lord of Miracles. He was a great healer, recognising the pain carried in the human heart and the yearning to give and to love. He turns takers to givers and feels a sense of community with all of humankind, inviting us to become the possible human – a being of truth and service.
“The Divine-conscious being looks upon all alike, like the wind, which blows equally upon the king and the poor beggar.”
Guru Ram Das (Sri Guru Granth Sahib, page 272)
This is a link to an article about him with some lovely stories to read and share:
And here is a link to a video of Shiv Charan Singh, director of Karam Kriya School and my personal teacher (also to be found on Kundalini Lounge!), sharing the story of Guru Ram Das:
In our tradition, we have a few profound meditations in Kundalini Yoga for healing and a selection of mantras to sing and chant including:
Guru Guru Waheguru Guru Ram Das Guru
Ra Ma Da Sa Sa Say So Hung
In this way, we can spread healing light through our voices and our hearts.
You can also find meditations for healing to practice any time, including these:
May we all continue to contribute to the elevation and healing of the world and humanity, in our own unique ways, as pioneers of the Aquarian Age.
